What do college admission requirements, application forms, test deadlines, transcripts, reference letters, financial aid packets, campus brochures and high school students have in common?

All can be tough to organize. That’s why Danawoods resident Shan Schumacher co-founded a unique college consulting business, Higher Applications. A specially designed organization kit, e-mail reminders and personal meetings (held in your own home) are among the tools used to take the guesswork and deadline panic out of college planning.

“Due to the increasing numbers of students applying to college, complicated entrance requirements, and a higher student to counselor ratio in the schools, many students find themselves frustrated and unprepared to apply for college,” says Shan. “Our goal is to provide students with the resources and information needed to develop a successful application and identify their own educational opportunities.” Services are available for students in grade 9-12. The Higher Applications website is a great resource offering free study tips, educational links, a newsletter and more. To view site and learn more about services offered go to mycollegeplan.net.

Dan and Shan Schumacher, and their family, are long-time residents of Danawoods, on Danapine. Shan is a graduate of the College Counseling Certificate program from the University of California, San Diego, a member of the Western Association of College Counselors. She has over four years experience working with local students.
