Disaster Preparedness – Week 3!

March 18, 2011

Continuing this series of notes on disaster preparedness in our neighborhood newsletter seems timely, especially now in light of the terrible events in Japan.

It seems as though a little preparation is in order. Not end of the world stuff, mind you. But think about a disruption in power – have a flashlight and batteries handy. If gas service is disrupted, many of us have camp stoves – stock up on a few extra propane canisters. And water! Survival experts emphasize that we can live without food for longer than we can live without water. So storing extra drinking water cannot be a bad idea. And remember to strap that water heater if you have not already. It will be a source for drinking water, and for cooking, washing, and flushing.
